There is a differential pay system for men and women. A full day’s pay for a male member is above 300 and it is above 200 for females. For hard labour, 10-50 extra per day is given. Even site leaders and Directors are paid daily wages. Regular employees are paid salary on a monthly basis. We see that the wage-spread amongst workers and employees is very narrow. Though workers may earn more in the market, the work is regular here and the pay is better than other contractors. Salaries are paid out on Saturday, but a part of it might be paid out every day. For works that demand stay on the site, an increment is paid. There is also a provision where 10% of the salaries are put into an account and members can purchase shares up to a limit. Bonuses are paid twice a year at 20% of wages for members and 10% of wages for non-members.

Apart from this members get the following benefits:

  • PPF contribution at 12% of wages
  • Medical allowance at 2.5% of wages
  • Gratuity payment
  • Matching labour welfare contribution to the amount paid by the worker (Rs.8 per year)
  • Part payment of LIC premium up to Rs.1000/-
  • Holiday wages for 9 days a year
  • Education and marriage allowance

Other contingent benefits common for members and non-members include:

  • Accident coverage while on duty: All medical expenses and half-wages while on recuperation are paid
  • For out of town work sites, arrangements for transport and stay are made.
  • Marriage allowance
  • Medical insurance coverage
